Where it all began: South Africa

My trip to South Africa was a dream of mine since the age of 14 realized 23 years later.  As a teenager while writing a research paper on Apartheid I set a goal to one day visit this country that I had just learned so much about.  I wanted to see this place in person that pricked at my heart as I learned of the hardships and struggles of the people inflicted on them by a small minded, racist and evil government.

My trip did not disappoint from the sunset views on top of table mountain, the wine tasting in the Stellenbosch district, historical tour of the townships including a stop at Khayelitsha and Bo Kaap.  Interacting with the children in Khayelitsha and walking through the Bo Kaap neighborhood and taking in all the pops of color via the homes.

As much as I enjoyed Capetown, it was during my visit to Johannesburg that this site was birthed.  It was a Sunday morning and we were riding through the beautiful countryside headed to a day of adventure that including elephants, baby lion cubs, a cultural experience and safari park tour and as I sat in the back of the van I heard it clearly…. Red Chuck Chronicles…and here we are.  A site to chronicle my thoughts, words, photos and more as I travel, live and explore.
