Dublin…You Surprised Me

I honestly didn’t know what to expect all I knew was I was going to be in the UK for work and had a weekend to explore so why not explore a new place.  Dublin was a quick flight and that would make Ireland country #32 on my 40 countries by 40 adventure (I think I’m going to have to set a new goal).  Arrived Friday night and checked into the hotel which happened to be right on O’Connell street a really central location.  I would definitely stay there again.  After getting settled headed to find something to eat and ended up walking to the Temple Bar area.  On the way made it across the Ha’penny Bridge to my final destination. This bridge opened in May 1816 and although it’s official name is the Liffey Bridge it is commonly referred to as the Ha’penny Bridge.

After having dinner it was time to just explore the area.  Made my way to Temple Bar where the atmosphere was filled with good vibes, everyone enjoying the live band, each room, area packed with people from all walks of life just enjoying drinks, friends and having fun.  Took a couple of pictures, had a shot of whiskey, listened to music and then it was time to head back to the hotel because it had been a long day already.

Saturday

Since my time was short decided getting on a sightseeing bus was my best option to see what Dublin had to offer, learn a little history and determine what I would like to explore further.  Now although I was thankful that the weather held up with no rain on Saturday, sitting on the top of that bus was not for the faint at heart, however I sucked it up and took it all in soaking up as much as I could.  My scarf, hat, gloves and hood were in full effect…lol

Hat, scarf, gloves….check….the wind on top of this bus was just disrespectful…LOL

Of all the exploring that happened on Saturday my two favorite things included walking an the campus of Trinity College and viewing the Book of Kells which is believed to be created c. 800 AD, it depicts the four Gospels of the New Testament together with various texts and tables (no pictures allowed of this).  I really loved walking into the Long Room of the library which is filled with 200,000 of the library’s oldest books and is one of the most impressive libraries in the world.

Additionally I visited and toured the Guinness Storehouse.  This included a tour of the facility, attending Guinness Academy to learn how to pour the perfect Guinness.  I’m not a beer drinker at all….I did take a sip because I mean I was there, it was free and well a sip won’t hurt….right lol

Sunday

Last day here….included a little shopping for souvenirs and an awesome red velvet doughnut for breakfast at the Rolling Doughnut…if your in Dublin…get you one.  Dublin definitely surprised me I had no expectations going in but I left having had a good time even though brief.  I will definitely be back and next time I hope to bring a couple of friends along with me. Until next time Dublin…..I’ll be back 😉
