This entire trip (Egypt, Jordan and Israel) happened because I saw a posting for a trip to Petra on the Sisters Traveling Solo (STS) Facebook page. After reviewing the proposed itinerary I figured what the heck and I clicked book. I had never traveled with this particular group but I figured I would give it a shot and I’m so glad that I did. After tackling Cairo and Luxor, my next stop included a 1.5hr flight from Cairo to Amman. I was so close and yet I was the last to arrived due to a delayed flight. Upon arrival I was greeted at the hotel by the trip organizer and up to my room to meet my roommate. The roommate pairing could not have happened any better, we clicked right away it was like we had known each other for years. The night ended with a welcome dinner and from that I knew this portion of my trip was going to be full of laughter.
Mount Nebo
Our first full day on the tour included a quick tour of Amman as we made our way to Petra. Along the way we made a few stops one of which included a stop at Mount Nebo. If you didn’t know this was the place in the final chapter of the book of Deuteronomy where Moses ascended Mount Nebo to view the land of Canaan.
“Then Moses climbed Mount Nebo from the plains of Moab to the top of Pisgah, across from Jericho. There the Lord showed him the whole land—from Gilead to Dan, 2 all of Naphtali, the territory of Ephraim and Manasseh, all the land of Judah as far as the Mediterranean Sea, 3 the Negev and the whole region from the Valley of Jericho, the City of Palms, as far as Zoar. 4 Then the Lord said to him, “This is the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob when I said, ‘I will give it to your descendants.’ I have let you see it with your eyes, but you will not cross over into it.” Deuteronomy 34:1-4
To say I was humbled and amazed to stand in this very spot and look out at Jericho, Jerusalem, Bethlehem and the Jordan River is an understatement. It was breathtaking and I was blessed beyond measure to be there. This moment was indeed another reminder that this journey I’m on is both healing and life changing. #travelismytherapy #healing #toGodbetheglory
Journey to Petra
As we continued on our journey and made our way to Petra we made a couple of stops along the way which included visiting a mosaic shop, seeing he world’s smallest hotel (it really holds the world record, lots of laughs on our bus and of course a little shopping.
This day ended with our arrival in Petra and a rooftop dinner overlooking the city.
